WDL brought the Technovation Challenge to Pakistan in 2014. The Silicon-Valley based competition for young female students from age 12 to 18 was tested in three very different settings: a private school for girls in Islamabad; a non-profit school for girls in Mughalpura, Lahore; and a school in Karimabad, Hunza. Through the beta program we motivated, connected and enhanced critical thinking and design skills among school going girls and enabled them to translate their solutions into smartphone apps. The program encouraged these young girls to take a keener interest in STEM and helped them to create social enterprises solving social issues.
